Navigating the Ever-Changing World of Art: Embracing the New Norms

10 September 2024

The music industry is like a labyrinth with layers that seem to stretch on forever. It’s a bit like peeling an onion—each layer reveals another, deeper layer beneath. Sometimes it feels like I’m chasing a never-ending spiral of expectations and demands. The hardest part? Being on constant display. All I want is to dive into my creative space, lose myself in my art, and share it with the world, hoping that someone out there will resonate with it. Yet, the reality is that our social presence now often dictates our success, rather than the quality of the work we produce.

I’ve had this conversation countless times, across various circles. It seems that in our current world, having an engaging social media presence is more critical than the actual work itself. It’s a frustrating shift for many artists, myself included.

Change is inevitable, though, and the only way to move forward is to adapt. If we can’t embrace change, we risk falling behind or engaging in work that doesn’t nourish our souls. So, here I am, trying to conquer my fears and build the confidence needed to navigate this new landscape. Rather than resist, I’m learning to embrace these changes. And when facing them head-on feels too daunting, I’m finding alternative paths.

I might post the occasional Insta story about the struggles and absurdities of being an artist in today’s world, but it’s all in good fun. One thing I’ve learned from my community is to find humor in the challenges. So, let’s keep our heads up and shine a light on the darkness. We’ll find our way through, and hopefully, meet each other on the other side.

To everyone out there—whether you’re an artist or someone navigating your own challenges—I want you to know that you’re not alone in this. I understand the anxiety and the pressure to conform, and I’m here, trying to make sense of it all, just like you. We can navigate this new world together. Change is inevitable, and embrace it we must!

Until next time, keep the music alive and buzzing!
