A Chocolate Porcelain Doll affair: The ‘Pieces of Me’ Project

1 April 2025

The ‘Pieces of Me’ project has been an incredibly emotional and healing journey. It has allowed me to condense decades of pain and healing into a 12-track album. What began as a deeply personal, even selfish, endeavour, has transformed into something much greater: a message of hope.

Chocolate Porcelain Doll is the second single from this album, and it sets the tone for the entire project. The song touches on the heavy themes of sexual abuse and neglect -experiences that are all too familiar for many. It’s a soul-pop, retro, dance-style song that I hope will spark change. It’s a call to move away from the normalised trauma and toxic behaviours that have been passed down through generations.

Initially, my goal was to heal from past untreated trauma -to become a better mother and person overall. But what I found was profound purpose. A purpose that extends far beyond my own healing: one that speaks to my people, who, like me, are burdened by the ripple effects of a decolonised nation.

For too long, we have normalised the trauma we carry, accepting it as part of our daily lives. We continue to push forward, not even recognising ourselves as victims, repeating cycles of intergenerational pain. As a forgotten people, we endure, often without realising there is another way.

Through this album, I want my beautiful people to know: It’s not your fault. But there is a way out. It begins with acceptance, a journey that is laden with pain and loneliness. And eventually -if we allow ourselves- peace. Peace not only for us, but for our children and their children’s children.

There is a better way, but we have not been blessed with the luxury to heal and reap the benefits of that way…until now. This is my story, but it’s not just mine—it’s ours. I hope it inspires you to take that first step today. The only way to help future generations is to heal ourselves first.

It may not be easy, but it’s worth it. We are worth it. We are not forgotten—we are the future. And it’s time to show the world what we are capable of.

Until next time — keep the music alive and buzzing.
